Jennifer Hudson's modeling job; news on a Grey's Anatomy star; a cool new mascara; and body products you won't be able to get enough of
Carol's Daughter
What do Jada Pinkett Smith, Brad Pitt, Tyra Banks and Mary J. Blige have in common? They're just a few of the fans of Carol's Daughter, a company specializing in hair and body care products based in Brooklyn, NY. What started off in the '90s as a way for founder Lisa Price to make gifts for friends and family has turned into a super-successful line of natural, moisturizing, wonderful-smelling goodies that attracts the famous and non-famous alike. Products like Groove Shea Body Lotion (with peach, pineapple, musk, sandalwood and vanilla), Tui Hair Smoothie (full of apricot kernel oil, lavender, and cocoa butter), and Ecstasy Shea Soufflé (which has sweet almond oil and jojoba) are made by hand (and, as it says on the bottle, "made with love," too). Jennifer Hudson's New Supporting Role
She knocked out the competition to score an Academy Award for best supporting actress for her work in Dreamgirls, now Jennifer Hudson will take on that job again, as the face of Imari fragrances for Avon. Jennifer will be the spokeswoman for both Imari and Imari Seduction, a new scent that will be released later this summer, and according to WWD, will have notes of plum, purple orchid, vanilla, amber and musk. Why Jennifer? According to Claudia Poccia, president of Avon U.S. Beauty, "We wanted a spokesperson who embodied a youthful spirit and confidence, and Jennifer speaks to a new generation of passionate women trying to achieve their dreams and goals." We couldn't have said it better ourselves.
News From Seattle Grace
In other actress-to-model crossover news, Katherine Heigl (Dr. Izzie Stevens on Grey's Anatomy) isn't content to laze around in scrubs during her off-hours. Instead, she'll do what her character used to do, and that's model as the new face of Nautica's first fragrance for women. What next, Katherine? A side career as a doctor?
Go-Go Glosses
Smashbox is reintroducing its lip gloss collection, with new shades and a super-moisturizing formula that nourishes while giving a cool shot of color. They've even got a new name: Lip Enhancing Glosses. You can pick from sheer, true, and full colors, depending on how much coverage you desire. Our faves? Beauty (a punchy, pink melon), Expose (a shimmery nude) and Pout (baby-doll pink). Visit www.smashbox.com to see all the fab shades.
Lashes That Make a Statement
Maybelline, the company that knows lashes (after all, its Great Lash is in the bag of just about every professional makeup artist) has a new mascara for the company's legions of fans, called Define-A-Lash. The product has brush flexibility so that the brush doesn't pick up extra product, and it hugs lashes better, so there's less clumping and more lengthening. At only $8, it's a reasonably priced way to get killer, glamorous peepers.
