The beauty products we recommend to keep your skin looking heavenly this winter.
Celebs like Rihanna have been photographed with bright, canary yellow nail polish. Would you wear this summer trend?
Totally. I like taking a bit of a risk, especially with something pretty minor like a manicure.
No, that just sounds like too much. I prefer subtle nails, like clear or pale pink.

How long does it take you to do your hair?
"I was just curious about how much time you guys spend doing your hair because if I flat iron my hair, it can take up to an hour. I wish I could do my hair in like 15 minutes."...read more
Winter Makeup 101
It's time to put aside your summery coral lip gloss and caramel eyeshadow — now that winter's here you can switch up your look, play with different shades, and give in to a little sparkle. We talk to makeup artist Kit Hall about how to create the prettiest festive faces.

For your face...
Kit's number one winter faux pas is when people try to wear the same foundation they used all summer. "At this time of year your complexion is paler, so wearing too dark a shade can look fake," she explains. "Shop around for a new foundation — find a color that matches up with the skin on your neck." We love the range of Cover Girl Smoothers All Day Hydrating Makeup, $7, which moisturizes dry winter skin as well as evening out skin tone.

"You probably won't need as much blush in January as you would in July, as the chilly wind will give you your own natural glow," Kit says. "So rub a little cream blush — which is easier to blend than powder — onto the apples of your cheeks." Try L'Oreal Translucide Sheer Blush in Berry Glow, $10.

Missing that sun-kissed radiance? Kit suggests that instead of trying to re-create it with self-tanners, dust a bronzing powder over your forehead, nose, and cheekbones after you've put on your foundation and blush. "The powder will help set the rest of your makeup and if you just add bronzer to these three areas, your glow will look more natural — because these are the places the sun tans you first." Kit recommends indulging in a good quality bronzing powder, "It's worth the cash because the pigment is more intense, which means a little goes a long way." Treat yourself to Chantecaille Compact Soliel in Tahiti, $38.

For your eyes...
Now that you've got the perfect complexion, you can get creative. "Winter is great because you can wear makeup shades that are too intense for the light summer months," Kit says. She recommends pairing smoky eyes with natural lips, or neutral shadow and eyeliner with darker dramatic lips.

For bold eyes, choose a color and use a shade of it on your lid and then go darker in your socket and along your eyelashes. Black and gray are the obvious smoky picks but don't forget navy, dark green, or burgundy — we love Sue Devitt Studio Electric Sheen Eyeshadow in Hopetown, $18.

Go retro: Cover your entire lid with a pale shimmery shadow — Kit swears by Nars Eyeshadow in Night Star, $18, then finish with a slick of black liquid liner along your top eyelashes."Liquid liner can be tricky to master," says Kit, "Pull your eyelid taut when you draw the line and start from the middle to the outer edge, then the inner corner out to the middle, so you draw the line in two stages. Try and get as close to the lashes as possible and remember, practice makes perfect." We like Maybelline Line Works Ultra-Liner Liquid Waterproof Eyeliner, $6.

For your lips...
"Winter's not a great time to wear lip gloss, because the wind can blow your hair onto your lips, getting it sticky," explains Kit. Instead she recommends a creamy lipstick with moisturizing qualities in a rich berry shade, like Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Rum Raisin, $7.

If you're like us, you can't imagine life without gloss (and you're prepared to tie your hair back). If that's the case, there's nothing more adorable than Jaqua's Warming Lip Gloss Set from their Café Collection, $22. These scented, tinted glosses contain vitamin E, beeswax, and cocoa seed butter to soften and condition your lips. They also have a hint of cayenne, which plumps and warms your lips, too — perfect for frosty nights out.
