Discussion: Asian Skin Member name: CrazyGurl
I've got Asian skin, and I'm not sure what tones would look right. Should I stick to golds and peaches, or can I venture out to blues and greens?
In Teenage Beauty, the book that makeup artist Bobbi Brown wrote, she says that the biggest mistake for Asian girls is to go for overly dark and dramatic makeup this will make your eyes look smaller, she says. Instead, she suggests, "Line all the way around your eyes with a brush and a deep shadow; check that it is thick enough on top to see when you open your eyes. Then use a lighter shadow all over your eyelid."
We also asked the gorgeous Asian girls in the ym office how they looked so good:
ym's fashion assistant Elaine says, "I choose bronzy tones for the fall. I love products with a gold shimmer like MAC's Amber Lights eye shadow. I try to stay away from shades of green and pink. they don't work well with the yellow in my skin. But I love all shades of blue and wine..."
ym's fashion writer Heidi says, "I use a pale lavender eye gel because I'm no good with the brush and the gel makes it easier to blend, because you use your fingers. Pale blues are good but make sure they are shimmery pastel colors. I've found that lavender looks best on my skin, but white shimmery shadows or champagnes and golds are cool, too."
