American Idols: Where are they now?
In the February issue of ym, we told you about the whereabouts of some of your favorite ex-Idols and predicted their future success. Here are some of the other contestants you don't hear about every day...
Kimberly Caldwell
Kimberly toured with other ex-Idols through November and is now working on an album, but it's the 22-year-old Texan's hosting job on Fox's extreme sports show 54321 that's getting her recognized these days. Has she ever even bungee-jumped?
Success potential: 2/5 While she might end up posing for her own calendar, we doubt she'll ever make it into the Billboard Top 10.
Justin Guarini
The future seemed bright for the first-ever runner-up he recorded an album, made a movie (which wasn't amazing, but still...), had a huge fan base or so we thought. Apparently sales of Justin's self-titled debut were bad, so bad that his record label, RCA, dropped him. Then he didn't appear on the recently televised An American Idol Christmas, even though he recorded a track for the Fox TV show's Christmas album. What will happen next? No one knows for sure, but as Simon Cowell said, "He could end up as a huge star, or he could end up singing at weddings."
Success potential: 3/5 He's had a taste of fame, but is it already time for a comeback?
Kimberley Locke
When Kimberley got voted off, Mike Curb, chairman of Curb Records, knew he wanted to sign her. Months later, he flew to Memphis to see her in the American Idols Live Tour and signed her on the spot. Kimberley, 25, started recording her first album in September in her hometown of Nashville.
Success potential: 4/5 She has an amazing voice and a lot of support, plus her mid-show makeover proved that she looked the part, too.
A.J. Gil
Nineteen-year-old A.J. hooked up with Fred, the head of New Artist Entertainment and made him his new manager. Now they're appearing in their "sure to be an Oscar contender" movie debut, Destination Fame, coming out next summer. He's also helping A.J. finalize a record deal and expects the first single to hit stores in January. Oh, and did we mention that A.J. has been working out recently? At Euro fitness center, which happens to be owned by Fred. Ever heard of selling your soul?
Success potential: 1/5 Our advice: If you want to hit it big, ditch Fred.
