May Fashion News
Two of the season's hottest new swimsuits; Kimora Lee Simmons creates an affordable new line; and a quest for an up-and-coming shoe designer.
Making Monokinis Work for You
At first, we weren't totally sure how we felt about the monokini, which has a bit of a split personality (one piece? Two piece? What are you, oh mysterious monokini?) and lacks the sporty comfort of a one-piece, but now we're fans of the swimsuit style, which is sexy and different than your regular old bikini. One we like is this raspberry number from Delia's (it also comes in black or red), which only costs $38.50. Sure, it's not for the faint of heart, but it's fun and flirty and at this price, a good addition to your summer swimsuit drawer, along with all the one-pieces, tankinis and bikinis you already own.
A Bikini With a Heart
Speaking of bathing suits, how sweet is Le Doux's "Puppy Love" bikini? The wildly colorful two-piece is available until September 30, with 10% of sales going to the ASPCA to benefit abused and neglected animals. Fans of Le Doux's Brazilian-influenced styles include Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Heidi Montag and Kristin Cavallari. To see the complete line, or share in some Puppy Love, please go to www.ledouxswimwear.com.
Kimora Turns to Teens
Businesswoman, designer and former model Kimora Lee Simmons has a new partner: JCPenney, which announced that she'll be creating a fashion sportswear line named Fabulosity for JCPenney's juniors department. It will have a hip-hop/high-fashion vibe — no surprise considering her background at Baby Phat — with prices in the affordable range of $29 to $108. Fabulosity will offer tees, knit tops and sweaters, jeans, skirts, dresses, hoodies, jackets and outerwear. Look for the styles in JCPenney stores and online at jcp.com this July.
Be a Shoe Star
Nine West needs help on its next collection, so the popular company is auditioning seven promising designers for the gig. Partnering with Footwear News and New York's Fashion Institute of Technology, they'll find up-and-coming designers to compete for the 2008 Shoe Star title. The winner will work with the Nine West design team on the spring '09 footwear, handbags and accessories collections. Find out more at the Nine West Contest Homepage.
